Recently, we did an internet promotion offering to trade a Ground Glass screen for a link from the customers website, no strings attached. One of our long time customers, author Michael Graves, decided to take us up on that offer and wrote an excellent review comparing us to the stock OEM screens on his Canham. He reported our screen to be 2/3rds of a stop brighter than his original screen. Read this ground glass reveiw and you will get a good idea of why you might want to replace your screen even if it is not broken. If that does not convince you, you can also check out our other testimonials.

This demonstrates the aspect of our borosilicate screens that you cannot see. They are not only brighter, they are also much stronger. Borosilicate glass was originally developed for its heat and impact resistance, and that is its primary benefit to the large format photographer. Borosilicate screens are tougher and therefor longer lasting and more dependable out in the field. We recommend borosilicate screens to pretty much anyone who can afford them (the raw materials are quite expensive) because they give you more service life for your money than a soda lime screen and they are nicer to use. I should mention, however, that if you ever use your borosilicate screen as a cooking implement, make sure to use the unground side, otherwise you will never be able to get the food of of it!

A Hopf ground glass focusing screen provides the brightest image view with good contrast and detail in both highlights and shadows.

Your focusing screen is the interface between the image and your camera. It is an integral part. Like a lense or shutter, the focusing screen is essential and the camera system is usless without it.

It only makes sense to use the best and brightest for easy viewing and razor sharp focusing.
